

This will open the kernel configuration menu. This will change the directory to the extracted kernel files. Type “tar xvf linux-4.9.tar.xz” and press Enter. This will download the latest kernel from the official website.

This will display the current kernel version. The following instructions assume that Kali Linux is already installed on the hard drive. It is strongly recommended that the default password be changed. The default Kali Linux installation provides a limited user account named “root” with a default password of “toor”. Kali Linux can be run from a live CD or live USB, or it can be installed on a hard drive.
